Abstract

The end of the Second World War was characterized by two contradictory fillings. On the one hand we had global happiness because of its ending, but on the other hand we also had a great fear for the future of all countries because of following events. In August 1945 terrible weapon is used for the first time. When an atomic bomb was dropped for the first time that moment became a turning point in entire human history. With the end of the Second World War the expected era of peace did not come. On the contrary, soon after that happened we had deteriorating relations globally between great powers, primarily the United States of America and the Soviet Union. Those relations are particularly declined after the Truman doctrine announced to Congress on March 12, 1947, and further developed on July 4, 1948. This period of time is mostly used as a starting point of the Cold War. On the other hand, the decline of Yeltsin's power and breakdown of the Soviet Union marked the end of the Cold War, making the United States the world's most powerful nation. In this paper the Cold War will not be analyzed here from a historical point of view, but this paper is primarily focused on the analysis of the phenomenon how American officials perceive this global conflict.
